Tempest spin-on oil filter adapter

Post by 8258 »

Hello all,
Can anyone confirm that the Tempest TAF-L spin on oil filter adapter will fit on an O-200A on my 1947 120?

I've been down this road before in the distant past, as, compared to a C-85 or 90, the O-200 has an extra section on the engine bearer which conflicts exactly where the 'neck' of the filter adapter is.

I'm looking for absolute confirmation that the TAF-L will fit around my O-200 engine bearer.

Many thanks
Graham

Hello Graham,

You can buy the TAF L, it will fit your O-200.

I discovered last year that the C150 that flies for school in our Aeroclub did not have a spin oil filter.
I suggested to install one, and we ordered it at AircraftSpruce.

Is installed as per the STC documentation and works nicely.

I attach the ASpruce order for documentation.

Have a very nice day !

Horacio

thank you Horacio,

my concern is with the curved part of the engine mount for the O-200 on my Cessna 120, which is an extra part that the C-85 mount does not have. Can you tell me if the mount on the Cessna 150 has this same piece (see attached picture) ?

My 120 with an O-200A has a curved section to the engine mount frame, which (I believe) will not allow the TAF-L spin on oil filter adapter to be fitted.

Are all O-200 to C120/140 engine frames this way ?

thanks
Graham

The measurements in Post 3 would seem to indicate it will fit. Hopefully, someone will post a photo showing the filter and mount together. Or, Randy might know.

I think the TAF-L was made to fit with the O-200 Mount. (0451111) I can’t seem to be able to attach a photo. I measured my distance from the engine to the mount outer rim and got 2 3/8 inch. The filter adapter, TAF-L allows 3 inches. I don’t run filters, but I have a few I have removed, and I could take these measurements.

Thank you Randy,

I'd be very grateful for confirmation, as being in UK, if the past doesn't fit, it's a devil of a job and expense to return it!

I have a friend with a120 that has an O-200 and his engine mount does not have the curved piece that mine has.

Here's waiting......😐

Thanks again

I have an 0-200 on my 140 with this oil filter adapter. My engine mount has the curved piece installed.

I have this adapter and filter on the O200 A in my 140. Don’t add it to a tired engine with marginal oil pressure. The pressure drop across the filter can starve the bearings. If the engine is healthy, holding good oil pressure it should work out well.

Hello,

Code: Select all

Can you tell me if the mount on the Cessna 150 has this same piece (see attached picture) ?
I am in Buenos Aires now, travelling this night to the north.
I will go tomorrow to the airfield and see the O200 - C150 engine mount.
By heart, I do not remember such a curved piece in the C 150 engine mount. But... I will take pics.

Reading other answers seems to be it will fit, but the doubt is to know if all the "curved" engine mounts are identical.

Kind regards,
Horacio
