This certainly isn't "120/140" related, but for anyone who "used" to fly into Chicago, this was the preferred airport if you needed to get into downtown quickly. Many trips into that "short" runway (it was 200 feet wide........as I recall, which made it "look" short) left me with an empty hole, just like many others when it was destroyed.

Re: Can we vote?
I had the privilege to operate into Meigs multiple times.
The Proximity to Downtown was a huge advantage.
I once took my brother and his family and we were able to walk to all of the highlights there. Sears Tower, Field museum, and Shedd Aquarium.
We had a Great day.
Darn shame when Daley closed it.
The Terminal was a dump as they obviously were not putting any money back into upkeep.
It could easily be a show case for the city if they made the effort.

Can you say "criminal"? Hard to believe it's been 15 years, though!
Brilliant economic decision, though, spending nearly $10 M to go from hundreds of millions in income to tens of thousands. They should name it after Daley as a memorial.

I'm with John; that was "criminal." Haven't heard about this before but I was only 14 at the time of the closure. It would be great to see that reopen, it seems like piece of an era that has passed.
On that note, I'm thinking getting vocal about my local backcountry airports is getting more important by the hour. Things are closing or not getting used so it takes some time with a shovel and and a pen to convince the "authorities" that it is still legal/right to use these backcountry airstrips.

Re: Can we vote?
Something very similar happened to Bader Field in Atlantic City. Bader was close to the casinos and boardwalk. You could either call a taxi, or walk to the beach. The mayor, Whelan, (D), tried for years to close Bader, but due to FAA funding, he could not. To generate interest and public opinion, the AOPA scheduled their annual convention in ACY, with Bader being the focal point. The AOPA convinced the State of New Jersey to fund improvements in the ramp, taxiways, and facility, including a temporary control tower. They did. The night that the convention closed, the mayor had city workers bulldoze the newly paved ramp and taxiways. A minor league ball park was built on part of the grounds, and that was all. With the current political party in power, it will never be reopened. BTW, the mayor, Whelan, went to jail, but not for anything involving Bader. He was a crook in other areas. So were his two successors. Welcome to NJ politics. https://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/new ... 65f69.html
