Looking for install pics 406 ELT's

Post by 6597 »

Researching where folks may be putting their new 406 ELT's with all the requirements for attaching (no attaching to fuselage skin, etc.) and how they dealt with the remote activation/test switches on the panel. If anyone has some pics handy please send along or PM me. My current ELT location from the 1970's doesn't meet the new TSO requirements. Many thanks!

Maybe not the best install but was simple.

That does look simple. I do use the baggage area quiet a bit though so I might have to make a cover for the ELT. I've got a space/cover where the glove box was for the remote, hadn't thought of the buzzer being next to the remote, loud but not a bad idea and simplifies the wiring a little bit more with a 4 conductor wire.

The regs on new 406 installs want them on more structural bearings, my hat rack is not 'structural' enough. Wish I could figure a route behind the baggage compartment. My old unit location doesn't work anymore. Currently using AC No: 91-44A Change 1 for guidance and the Artex install guidelines for ideas. Pretty limited.

That image is pretty small and blurry, is it on the right side ahead of a bulkhead? Can't tell for sure...

That's the route I really want to take but the current requirements say not to attach to 'skins' on new installations. I think the reasoning is that there is too much flex or movement that sets off ELT's. Never mind that my current ELT is 'skin' mounted and in the last 30 years I haven't had an inadvertent set off.....

My installation is not mounted to the skin, it is mounted to the stringer.
The same as Michael.

Mine doesn't have a 'stringer', it's simply a bend in the skin to make a lip. The lip is part of the 'skin' so that's why I'm hesitant to install where the existing Sharc7 is with a plate like you two...it's such a perfect location.

Go to AC 43.13-2B, Chapter 2, Paragraph 206.
Also look at Figure 2-8 in the same book for guidance.
What Michael and I did are exactly what the book calls for.
Nuff said.
