Usable Fuel
I just purchased a Cessna 140, it has 12.5 gal. wing tanks, but what is the usable fuel? I was surprised it was not in the Owners Manual.

Re: Usable Fuel
For takeoff you need 1/4 tank IAW the POH (p.3 Section 1 C (3))
1/4 x 12.5GL x 2 tanks = 6.5 GL
or 18.5 GL of useable fuel
*this is for the normal attitudes (gentle to steep)
Straight climb:
1/8 tank is safe for medium climbing (best rate of climb) = 22 useable fuel
1/16 tank is risky but ok for gentle climbing (normal/cruise climb) = 23.5 useable fuel
Straight & Level:
I was able to empty my RHS tank the other day when I was flying straight & level during a calm day.
I was able to put 12.1 GL in the RHS tank after my flight.
That will be 24.2 GL of usable fuel if you have big balls & you don't really care about your AC/life...
