WTB 2 1/4" Clock for '48 140

I have a hole in my panel from an unused factory gauge location. After a little digging I found that It was most likely the clock. Having the empty hole is driving me crazy. It has the cut out for the wind-up function so something like a USB port or Hobbs meter won't fit correctly. It is the second from the left, just above the piano keys. Does anyone have a factory style clock for a reasonable price?

You are correct, its the clock. My guages from the left are: Ammeter, Clock, Oil Pressure, Oil temperature. I've been looking for a clock too however, I believe 2 1/4" one will be too big. I measured earlier this week and I think the 4 mechanical gauges are 2" gauges.

There are replacement clocks on ebay, search 8 day aircraft clock. They are pricey tho!

A 2 1/4 clock will fit. The other instruments are 2 1/8 I believe.

You are right, I'll have to look for a 2 1/8th. An eBay search shows many possibilities, do you guys have any model numbers I should be looking for? I don't like buying off eBay and certainly don't want to get stuck with a product that doesn't fit.

Mine is called an Elgin 8 Day clock, no model number that I know of. I sent it out for repair as it was missing some parts, cost $200 just to overhaul it, so they are an expensive item. I was debating on fixing it or installing a VOLT meter in the same location to fill the hole.

I have an Elgin 8 day clock that I removed from my '46 120; replaced it with a clock I bought off ebay.

Reason for removal was that it does remain running, therefore it would require an overhaul/repair to be useful replacement.

Please advise if this of any interest.

I have an Elgin 8 day clock that wouldn't keep running. I shot a quick squirt of WD-40 in it several years ago and it "runs like a clock"! (I know, that was pretty bad! Give me a break, I'll do better next year!) The clock repair folks are probably in an panic after reading this, but it worked.

I helped an ole career "watchmaker" by timing the mags on his experimental that he was building years ago and he confessed that most of the response to " your watch needs cleaning" was a few drops of oil in the appropriate places!

I took a grandfather clock movement to a clock maker for repair years ago. The first words out of his mouth were "You didn't put WD-40 on it, did you?" I recall it contaminates his cleaning tank, and he would have refused to work on it if I had.
