Mine are colored LEDs but I left the colored lens in as well. The brightness levels of the bulb are so high, it didn’t affect it enough to be less than old school bulbs. They are still brighter in spite of it. There are a lot of different options out there however and I didn’t need strobing since I have traditional strobe wing tip lights that are still there. The Aero-Lite website even suggests not bothering with using clear lens.

The spec for the color ("Aviation Red", etc.) is very specific as to wavelength. If both the bulb and lens meet the spec, there should be very little reduction in output.
