AD scuttlebutt

Post by izzimj59 »

Wondering if anyone has heard anything regarding a possible upcoming AD concerning wing spars on the C-140 and/or 120. If so please advise as I am on the verge of closing a deal on a 140 and would like to know exactly what’s involved if this is true and whether or not it will affect the plane in question.Thanks.

I’m not aware of any spar issues. I don’t think we ever had loss due to a spar failure.

Could it be somebody heard somebody else who heard from their brother about the "140 wing spar" and missed the "Cherokee" part? Feds have been proposing an AD on the PA-28 line which includes the Cherokee 140...

Two distinct possibilities. Seems plausible that a C-140 may have been confused with a Cherokee 140. On the other hand those Luscombe guys........hmmmmmn. Anyway, I’m looking to buy my first plane and think I have found it in the C-140 I’m currently in the process of purchasing .Not trying to spread rumors or incite a riot. This was something I heard and will go back to the source and ask more questions. I’m trying to gain as much knowledge as I can and figured this was a good source of information from people who know more than I about the C-140 and figured if there was anything in the pipeline you guys may have got wind of it.Thanks

Thanks to all who responded to my question. One of you guys hit the nail on the head. Turns out that my source of information did in fact mix up the C140 with a piper Cherokee 140. I still love him. This clarification was good news for me as I am planning on acquiring a ‘46 140 this weekend and will sleep a bit better tonight. Thanks again
