Wing Fabric Clips vs Pop Rivet STC

Post by 8468 »

I am in the process of recovering the wings on my C120 and wanted to get your opinions about whether to stick with fabric clips or order the pop rivet STC? The existing rib holes are in relatively good shape. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Eric

I prefer the original clips. You have already answered the key question, the existing holes are in good condition. Both systems are good and the final result looks good. Since it’s Ken Morris’ Birthday I guess I should have recommended the pop rivets!

I would look at the total cost of both.

Do you need to replace any or all of the clips.
They are not cheap.

I have not dealt with the clips so I would be looking at ease of installation.

Just my thoughts.

Keep using clips as long as your holes are good. When they aren't the Pop rivet STC is your next best option.

Are the clips reusable?

Do you need to do anything special to them to reuse them?

Yes, they are reusable, and no, you don't have to do anything to them, unless they are bent, in which case you might want to consider replacing them. Also, replace them if they show anything more than surface corrosion, which should be treated first.

I am recovering 140 wing and am up to putting the fabric clips in the ribs . Is there any special technique to make it any easier to get them in or is there a tool ?
