Must be the year for "questionable tachs............."

Bummer about the Mitchell.

We just had a tach "fail" here in MKG on a Piper PA28-235 (Dakota) RPM display was fine, but about every 10 hours the customer would fly and even though he flew for an hour, his tach would only read .12 or so. Turns out one of the teeth on the tenth drum (XX*X.XX) was stripped, so as it came around it didn't always catch.......

New tach fixed the issue.

Weird.......

Check it with Tru Tach digital tachometer. Set it on glareshield and run it up it tracks blade speed via strobe. most A&ps have one ask to check RPM.

Thanks to all for the advice. The repaired tach seems to be working fine. I did check both tachs with a strobe indicator. My old 1947 tach was right on speed with the strobe hand held unit while both Mitchell tachs ran slow.

Had similar tach issues. Installed an Electronics International digital tach and never have had any issues since. Then again it does not have the old school charm of an original.
