Safety pins for cowl latches

Post by 8244 »

Where can I get stainless safety pins , of the correct size to secure the cowl latches on my 120 I prefer stainless steel but cadmium would be ok too. I believe it has standard latches as came from factory but will provide pictures if needed. Thanks in advance for your help

Look at Spruce for AN416-1 or -2, only the diameter differs between them.

When the old latches start to fail some folks do something like this....

But I went with the Davis option when my old latches failed....

There is a "U" shaped bracket attached behind the lower part of the latch, near where the pin is in the photo above. The ends of the "U" are drilled and the pin goes through the holes and across the latch handle.

You should fix the old latches properly, Univair has all the parts, or get the Davis mod STC from Ken and Lorraine Morris.

Even if you fix them up, the safety pins might still be a good idea.

I copied this from another member can’t remember who. Anyway it will keep the latch from fully opening. Easy to make and I think they look good and I’ve never had the pins come out.
