Windscreen Felt

I just removed my windscreen that was new in 1979. To my Suprise, there was just metal to plexiglass contact all around. No felt material as shown in the 140A parts manual. My question for those that may know, is, when you install the felt around the contact edges of the plexiglass, can you see it after the retaining strip is cleco'd in? (Maybe, "should you see it", would be a better way to phrase that). My thought is that the retaining strip and channels would actually put pressure on the felt and not actually touch the glass. Just as an aside, I have had this plane since 1993 and I always thought the windscreen was a bit loose in the retaining channels, but not "scary" loose, so it never caused me any great concern over the last 1000 hours or so.
