crankcase breather elbow

Post by 7414 »

It's time to get my 140 out of hibernation here in upstate New York.
This time I would like to use the Mike Bush method by pre lubricating the cylinders and crankcase with an oily mist.
To have better access to the crankcase can I simply unscrew the original breather elbow without getting myself into technical difficulties ?
Thank you.

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but, could you do it through the elbow just as easily as through the hole left when you take it off?

The idea is to cover the moving parts inside with a film of oil before first start up by blowing an atomized oily mist into the crank case.
Doing so via the 90` elbow would make it somewhat less effective I suppose.

Even without the elbow, the path is pretty convoluted.

If you're blowing something in, something else needs a way to get out. You can open the oil fill cap, but if the oil level covers the fill pipe, oil is going to come out instead of air...
