Removing wheel fairings from 140

I want to permanently remove my wheel fairings. Where can I purchase standard axle nuts and hub caps?

Mike, both are available from Aircraft Spruce & other major suppliers. Best I recall, their castle nuts and their hubcaps (...actually Grove brand caps) are good for certified aircraft. The caps are prob around $30 a piece and the nuts 1/2 of that. There may be better deals around @ salvage shops (Texas Air Salvage, for example, 'though their prices are often same as new) and you can find on Ebay occasionally, too. Mac

There is an MS number for the nuts. I may even have a pair around somewhere. Leave the hub caps off so you can get to the tire valves without wearing out the tiny threaded holes in the wheels...

MS21025-24 Nuts should do it. Also get some AN380-4-3 cotter pins and use two (2) pins per nut 180 degrees from each other (one pin through each hole in the axle to safety the nut).

He's probably removing due to the reason we all have experienced after having installed wheel pants -- the dramatic increase in speed! It's such a hassle to keep running over Bonanzas and Mooneys in the patterns

For those who want hubcaps but don't want to take them off each time to check air pressures, here's an option. I have an earlier model of these on my Cessna 140 with Cleveland wheels and brakes. Kind of expensive, but...

I think honestly they may actually slow you down some, but to me they make the airplane look nice and very 1940’s appearance

I totally agree, Jody -- to both points. I've seen several over the years who'd attempted to add "streamlining" covers to the brakes as well as fillets at struts. Nothing seems to add meaningful "slickness". The only time my 140 gets really fast is getting it down on final to fit into a really short runway
