I have looking for a 120 or 140 for a while now ...
Found one that has looks very nice but
Engine was last majored in 1969 and had a top overhaul in 1973
Currently has around 880 SMOH with good compression and had a recent oil analysis that looks OK
From a 1971 337 "Recovered Wings with Poly Stits in accerdance with STE SA-1008WЕ"

None of that would bother me...
Does the fabric look good? It is not life limited like cotton.
In addition to a pre-purchase inspection by someone knowledgeable in 120/140s, you might want to do your own oil analysis, and, of course, a thorough review of the logs.

Re: Engine and Fabric How old is too old?
The only consideration I would look at is what happens when you re-sell it. There may not be "another you" out there that is forgiving on the age of the fabric and engine. While it still may "be good", the next buyer may expect a serious price "adjustment" to take it off your hands.
If you've considered price/value of your purchase, then the age of the engine and fabric would be more palatable.
I agree with John, in that if the fabric and engine have been decently cared for(stored inside) for the fabric and flown "regularly enough" for the engine(backed up by good inspection and oil report), this could be the deal for you!
