No. The 3200 is listed on the Aircraft Specification, so the installation is approved and does not even constitute a modification. No 337 is required; all you need is a log entry.

I've been looking around without success regarding tire pressure. What is the recommended pressure for a 3200 on the 120/140?

No need for 337 or field approval. The 3200 is authorized for installation on our planes on the Type Certificate Data Sheet.

Sorry for the repeat post on the 337. You might want to check to see if you have the correct leaf spring set. There are two kinds, according to one of the articles by Neal Wright, for serial numbers 8001 to 14026, the "straight" set is called for. For SNs after that the "double bend" is called for. The double bend type will alter the angle of the king pin. When I bought my plane it had the double bend type and a Maule tail wheel that was really cranky. I switched to a Scott 3200 and with the double bend spring set, it just didn't work right and I was touching down tail wheel first during many landings. My plane also had those #@$$$%%^^ wheel extenders. I took the extenders off and switched to the straight tail spring set and have had no issues with shimmy or tail first landings since.

I'm going to be selling window latches soon if you would like a set. Just working out the details.

Is the 3200 the most preferable? Mine has the maule, my instructor thats with me helping me fly it home is very impressed with the plane except for the tailwheel. He says it would cut it for all grass but that its crappy enough to add a layer of challenge to my transition to tailwheel driver and i should upgrade it immediately if i need to go anywhere with asphalt... so im wondering if i must replace is the 3200 the best option? Or i guess what are my options for a new one?

Which Maule do you have?

The tailwheel is mainly to keep the spring from dragging on the ground and making a lot of noise.

I don't think you can even get a new Scott 3200. Alaskan Bushwheel makes a copy, but it's very pricey ($1178). Used ones are a crap shoot; you may spend enough fixing it up to buy new. (If you're going to fix something, the one you have may be the most cost effective option.)

The Lange tail wheel used to be the bargain, until they doubled the price ($890).

First, decide if you want pneumatic or solid. For Pneumatic, I'd say the only option to consider is the Alaskan Bushwheel 3200. For solid, the Lang is a good product, or fix up the Maule you have.

Bottom line: a $2000 tail wheel won't make you a better pilot.
