I got my tailwheel sign off in the UK more than 20 years ago. I was working there and had access to a '46 120. Got the tailwheel sign off and then flew around East Anglia for a summer. A bit odd having the UK instructor fill in the endorsement, but as far as I know it was legal. Later on I got a BFR overseas too, but that had to be done by an FAA instructor. More of them around overseas than you might think. The Stearman I flew based in the UK was USA registered too.

I think you should be able to get you tailwheel endorsement in Australia no problem.

No endorsement, but I did get two hours in the 140 from a grass strip (Caboolture) and flew out to another great little grass strip (Kilcoy) then to a paved airport near the coast (Coulandra). Wrapped it up flying back to Caboolture at 500' off the coast checking out the surfers and sunbathers. Was a great time and I loved flying the 140!
