uAvionix new ADS-B in and out......portable.

Post by 1307 »

uAvionix just announced a new development for ADS-B in and out. Unfortunately, it is certified only in Great Britain for sale there. It's the Sky Echo 2. No word on if it will be marketed in the US. Probably not, as it's a portable unit. But the price is right for 120 and 140 owners. Cost is equal to $456 dollars.

As challenging as the "system" is and with the pressures of competition are it's probably doubtful that they'll pursue US marketing for the Sky Echo 2...but we can hope? They have announced that all's submitted to FAA now for TSO/AML "approval" of the TailBeacon, so that's going to be another boost for their biz as well as to bring more "practical" help with impending ADS-B compliance for us "little" owners. The uAvionix folks' booth was swamped all day/every day with visitors @ Sun-N-Fun & any available skyBeacons there and at other vendors' booths were quickly sold. They had "certified installers" standing by to install skyBeacons on fly-in aircraft for a $100 "fee" and demoed an installation on a Tri-Pacer during the Fly-In. It's good to see this company exhibiting long term commitment and real "sticktoitiveness" in bringing a truly innovative, needed ADS-B OUT product to market. (On a related note, my IA just installed a skyBeacon on a Cherokee...said that the installation did, indeed, take only about 5 minutes but, then, he growled that the "paperwork" took another 3 hours ! ...but, he growls a lot anyhow :D ).
