Not bad on floats

Post by 6781 »

I thought I would put this up as I have been contacted over the years about performance on floats. I'll attempt to put some You Tube links and a picture or two. This site and its members have been extremely valuable to my efforts. Thanks for the help!

-1946 140 w/ metalized wings

-85hp Continental up until now
Just put a Dream Machine on with 0200 conversion. It's really going scoot now.

-Edo 1400 floats w/ 337 for 85hp vs 90hp

-Takes 30 seconds to get off the water.
HOWEVER it doesn't take that much distance! This was a big revelation. A 185 takes twice the distance to get off in 22 seconds. I've always heard "You got to get off the water quick!" Less wear an tear on the floats and fuselage yes, but if you can find short little bays with protected water, also less wear and tear.

Wonderful pictures and video.
Can I please beg you for an article for an upcoming newsletter?
The article on winter flying with skis was a big hit in the Feb/Mar/Apr issue and that was all done with submissions from the folks who fly them.

I would love to hear about your experience finding the floats and the parts to make this happen as well as any good resolution pics to go along with it. I know our members would love to hear from you.

Hi ''6781"!
I saw on your youtube video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTs3zbPl9o0

''Take off and landing on the Columbia River. First flight after the float conversion. The plane had never been on floats before. Parts were chased down for over two years between California and Nova Scotia."

Can you please shed some light about where did you get the parts & the drawings to be able to do the conversion on your 140.
I want to do exactly the same thing.

Thank you for your time!
Cheers,
Mat
