C-85 stroker

Post by 8157 »

So I bought a C-85 stroker from Don's Dream Machines. I am still in the break-in period, using mineral oil. The extra power is quite noticable. My 140 practicaly leaps off the runway and I am getting an additional 150 to 200 fpm on climb out. Leveling off into cruise, I have have to be careful avoid over-reving the engine. I have to back off the power considerable to keep below the red line rpm. Does anyone else have any experience with the stroker engine?

Sounds like you need to increase the pitch on the prop. Do you know what model and pitch it is? What is your static RPM?

I have a different question. Did you buy the engine recently? The reason I ask is I had completely lost track of Don, I thought he closed up shop and disappeared?

Don Wade over in Bessemer, AL bought Don Sword's "operation" a while back...best I recall it's still going by "Don's Dream Machines". I understand that Don Wade brings the same kind of experience & expertise to the powerplant shop that Swords earned fame for, plus his shop does a lot of classic restoration work in addition to engines. I went to one of the Small Continental workshops at Oshkosh last year and both the "Dons" were giving the presentation and answering questions.

I’m pleased with mine, though I’ve not known her any other way... but no I don’t have a problem keeping her from red line...

What do you plan on running at cruise rpm wise? I find just slightly north of 2400 she seems the smoothest...

I’ll check my prop size for ya I forget off top of my head..
