RE FORUM UPGRADE

Post by 2066 »

As our dedicated and appreciated(!) volunteers continue to work toward upgrading and expanding the Association Member Forums function, and with all due respect for those of us who may diligently contribute and depend on Facebook "technical advice", the following related & excerpted from a VAA Chapter 3 recent newsletter "vintage restoration article" summary seems to emphasize the value of "official" type club information: "Join the type club that has the best technical and operations material. Just do it. For every old airplane, you should create a library that includes everything about everything that is available. Just do it. Can you get technical information from Facebook? Sure...but some will say, "whenever I turn the propeller, I hear a real loud boing-boing." 73 people will comment, three of them know what they are talking about. You get to figure out which three. You can ponder this stuff while bored to death watching ice skating with Aunt Lillie. (Realizing that he'd probably be stoned for the audacity of indicating some doubt for for FB value, the highly respected author added "if I don't get any death threats, stuff like this might appear again" ;-).

How many Facebook members does it take to change a lightbulb?

Post by 6643 »

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently.

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

53 to flame the spell checkers.

41 to correct spelling/grammar flames.

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ...

Another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp."

15 know-it-alls who claim *they* were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly acceptable.

156 to email the participants' ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy."

109 to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb group.

203 to demand that cross posting to an aircraft group and lightbulb group about changing light bulbs be stopped.

111 to defend the posting to this group saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts *are* relevant to this group.

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty.

27 to post URL's to YouTube videos where one can see examples of different light bulbs being changed.

14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URLs.

3 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group.

33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too."

12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy.

19 to quote the "Me toos" to say "Me three."

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ.

44 to ask what is a "FAQ."

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs."

1 lurker to respond to the original post 6 years from now and start it all over again.

1 to state that a light bulb does not emit light, it sucks dark. After it is full, it stays dark.

Mac, Thanks for posting, and the compliments to our assoc. Thank You for your involvement and investing time as a leader too. FB is just another tool in the shed some use it some don't, either way its there and we have to keep the FB members informed that the Assoc. is more than just social media. We are building our State Rep. members and with there involvement hope we can have more mini fly ins to gather the ones that can't make conventions. Our news letter is fantastic ( Christian Vehrs Editor ) and thinking if FB members knew the material and member knowledge they would be all in? Again, Thanks Mac for all your advice and being a great assist to this Assoc. JEFF
