Float Kit - owner manufactured parts

Post by 8434 »

Hi Folks,

I guess I just like to spend money and time...

From what I've red from other topics on the site, finding the parts for a Cessna 140 float kit is next to impossible. See here viewtopic.php?t=1753
Looking at the drawing the parts themselves are neither complicated or challenging to make or have made. It makes me think, if there are a number of owners that would be interested in float kits, could we not as a group have them manufactured? the cost would be less then a one off.

Is that something there is a reasonable interest in? It will of course fall the the AME/IA to sign off on each install.

I would definitely be interested. I wonder, are the 170 kits similar? Are they any more readily accessible? I would love to put my 140 on floats for the summer.

Thanks Meloosifah for the interest. I'm surprised there isn't more. I was hoping to get at least 10 or 15 people interested before looking into a manufacturing run on parts.

I think I'll slowly pick away at collecting information and materials and try again when I have more to offer.

Just acquired a 1946 that was modified for floats in 1948. As soon as I get it home I'll have time to look at the mods and post some photos. N72633

Jeff: did an airplane show up at the fly-in that you couldn't live without? This is not going to help your RV...
