SUN & FUN 2022

Post by 6898 »

It's time to think spring especially living in Illinois. Sun and Fun this year April 5th - 10th Lakeland , Florida. Always fun to see members at the Type Table and New member sign ups. 2 years in a row we haven't had a Tech meeting there because of that dreaded Covid thing. Trying to get our spot back for that in the class rooms. We will have some merchandise at the table as always and you can renew a membership too. Thinking at least two of us will be camping on site so would like to have a get together one evening after show ends if we get a response from you? $$$$$$$$$$$ Also we have two complimentary show passes $$$$$$$$$$ The catch is we would love to have some volunteers at the table. Requirements are happy friendly people that like to have conversations with our members. My contact is on the home page . Jeff Tourt

Thanks for handling and coordinating, Jeff! It's no small part of your big "job". We know well the time and communication necessary to garner & set up Type Club presence, retrieve/plan convenient forum times (for which there's plenty of competition) and arrange for a "family" get-together to fit varied attending member schedules. We'd just second your request for "happy friendly people" to join you in staffing the Association table during the week -- that there are plenty of the 120-140 group who fit that description and that it's a great & fun way to greet, visit, share, learn(!) and make life-long friends is fact! (The "show pass" is a very valuable bonus, folks!!) We'll plan to stop by -- wondering who else may be planning to attend this year?

A great week so far, with weather now edging towards perfect! We've visited with several of the 120-140 family, special fun catching up with some @ last evening's annual Vintage fish fry. Hope to see more as it all ends too soon -- always a super busy time for all.

Sun and fun 2022 is in the books.Thank You for all that stopped by the type tent and we apologize for not representing the Assoc. the last half of the event. Cindy and I packed the camper and left Illinois the Friday before ,takes two days with the traffic jambs (4hrs sitting) and camper so arriving late Sunday night spending the night in the gate parking lot because gates close at 7pm. Meeting Scott and Linda Ross the next morning, even though they live 1 hr from us ,and we usually travel together they got this nutty idea to retire. There cheating by not seeing snow and cold travailing to Florida for 3 months and catching up to us at S&F. I call foul. (but would love to do that) Always fun to spend time with them as we had campers side by side and made more memories. Thanks to both of them.
Thursday was a complete wash out with the canceling of the air show and being there for the last 11 years our type tent is in the flood zone. So we did not set up on Thursday and the more it rained the more we saw the campground turn to a mud fest. We were on high ground and had the opportunity to get out without getting pulled out so we took that route. Again sorry for being MIA at the type tent those last days. I did post that we need some help at these two events OSH. and S&F so contact the Assoc. anytime if you have suggestions or would like to help at them.
There was some rumors floating around that Amazon Prime was kind of taking over Lakeland Linder Airport so we will see how turns out. Seems they have priority over the airshow in general and I've heard and seen some you tube videos on the struggles getting in there with that kind of disruption?
We will be at Oshkosh next so if we missed you please stop by and give me some grief about leaving early. (and over a cold one later that day) JEFF

Another note for SnF we had another c-140 win an award this year. Member Steve Rose of New Port Richey won Best custom classic under 100 hp. He has worked really hard on his airplane over the years he has had it.
