Never heard of "Finding Carla". I'll check it out. I've talked to CAP pilots and they have conflicting reports. We all have a story........some good.........some not good.8126 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2026 7:28 am "Finding Carla" is a book about how the requirement for ELT's came about. Interesting reading and somewhat puts lie to the oft repeated tale that ELTs never saved anyone. I have three different model ELTs and the batteries, ranging from AA's to D cells, all cost with $5 of each other and have tripled in cost over three replacement cycles. The EBC-102 is Duracell AA's, the Sharc 7 is D cells wired together though not epoxied and the BP-1010 batteries are D cells epoxied in a plastic box. The new 406 ELT batteries are twice as expensive generally and have a longer life limit that puts the cost per year still about the same from what I've seen so far.
