Landing lights

OK, so we can't seem to find a Grimes swing down light to go where there is a plate (plane apparently used to have one and the wires are there).

Who holds the STC for leading edge lights?

I have the Grimes landing Light that I removed from my '47 140.
Connected to 12v battery and it all works as advertised. Full extension and retraction and lights up my garage great.
Cheapest I found them on the internet is $700. $350 + postage and it is yours. Includes the 2 mount plates I removed from the wing.

The only things in the LE lite kit from AC Spruce that is usable are the bulbs and the switch. essentially nothing in it is in compliance with the STC. Even the wire appeared to not be approved a/c type.

So, the advantages of the LE setup vs swingdown are that it is lighter and has two lights, one aimed for Taxi and one aimed for landing?

The swingdown has just one aim point but is more "original" and requires less install effort (if there is already wire and a plate covering the old hole for it.

Do I have that right?

Also; and in my mind the most important if you have the original eng and gen, The 250 watt bulb pulls almost 18 amps. I think the original gen was only 12 or 15 amps, and that only with the power up some.

I think two Grimes, one in each wing, (yes it was an original option) with LED bulbs and WigWag. That's what I want. ;)

That is what I want too. My wings are metalized. I could cut and add a support ring to the bottom skin but i don't know if there is a reinforcement in the right wing between the ribs like there is in the left.

Also, at cruise my plane is almost 3 knots slower with the left light down. Would I be 6 knots slower with two down. At least I would not have to hold a little right rudder. I would only use them for climb and decent or in very busy airspace so maybe it does not matter.

I am recovering my wings as we type. I removed the structure for the Grimes from the left wing. The right wing did not have the structural pieces to mount a light. And, yes, the right wing light was an option.

If anyone wants the 2 mount pieces so they can add the Grimes, free plus postage, let me know.
