This single article replaces the two-part article which was uploaded at a time when the International web site file limit was smaller than this single file. There are no significant changes of the article in this version so there is no reason for those who downloaded the two parts to download this one.

A July string with inputs about no oil pressure at startup in the forum section made completing this article timely. This article illustrates the real oil flow through the engine, presents the causes of lack of oil pressure, and lists several "cures" both temporary and permanent and mentions those that people believe in but won't work as well as those which do, and points out the best method to reprime if this happens to you.

There are those who will wonder why I included the suggestions known to not work or to be more difficult....everybody deserves to suggest a solution, and to learn why they won't work and to allow all to compare all the solutions.

Yesterday a new suggestion that there is a flapper valve in the 48108 filters which prevents leak back. I am checking with the asserted maker, Champion to find if there ever has been an anti-bleedback valve. There is...see the article on the F&M oil filter for that good news as well as other benefits.

Lack of oil pressure at startup is very serious. It happens but there are good ways to reprime.
